Sunday - Beach day! We were recommended this beautiful beach Voidikilia, however due to early summer tides the water was FREEZING!
Lovely warm day, with fresh breezes so we sat a while and I braved the waters a couple of times before needing to thaw out in the hot sun. After getting a lovely tan we headed for lunch and stumbled upon an amazing town Gialova. Not in any guidebooks we could find, a Greek tourist town that seems to consist of one road down a beach, where you could find a handful of designer shops, spas and gelato stores!
Plus the requisite restaurants by the beach. We ate our best meal at one of these. Really amazing food and spins on traditional Greek cuisine whilst watching the sea and holding our hats.
As with other Mycenaean ruins the Palace burned down and was abandoned which meant the clay tablets for accounting all the stock were fired and buried. These were the key to us unlocking Linear B script.
There is a handy museum which explains the amazing linguist who did this. Also to note Piet de Jong who did all the Palace watercolour reconstructing drawings was a fantastic figure.
We earned our Icecream this day and then headed home to try the other amazing restaurant, mmm homemade moussaka.
