We left the wonderful Canyons Bnb at Escalante on full stomaches and buzzing excitement. Stopped to chat to the happy bikies who were staying in the room next to us - full leather, beautiful cruisers and they were going through Death Valley where the temperature goes up to 45 degrees!
First stop was Petrified Forest in Escalante where Greg and the Ranger convinced me to do the 45min walk. It was quite pretty and petrified wood is so colourful!
Although I did have the urge to take some pics of the 'asian hats' we saw – oh I just know my mum would love these huge brim, fluoro hats that are so incredibly umm...fashionable?! But I refrained. Sadly.
We did descend into the Canyon itself and I took some great footage. Sadly I cannot get to it right now so you'll see a video later on. (LONG STORY: We are in La Paz as I write this and my computer has an operation limit of 10,000ft and we are at 12,000 so writing and getting the pics for this blog is a bit of a challenge!)
It was hot dusty but amazing to descend into the canyon and walk amongst the hoodoos. Very haunting and eerie, some of the hoodoos have weathered away leaving walls with windows and turrets. Walking between them is just awe inspiring.
Later we drove to Panguitch the nearest town about 40min away, and were treated to a family run BBQ for dinner – yum-o.
