Lets get Maui’d!

Leaving our friends behind on Kauai, we headed to the well known wedding destination, the island of Maui.

The island itself can be described by locals as a bit of everything from the other islands and its true. Maui has fantastic sunsets, the Haleakala volcano, wonderful hiking near Iao Needle, great snorkelling at Molokini Islet and….if all those weren’t enough and you just want some solitude head to Hana, a sleepy little village town where you go to get away from it all. (Such as celebs like Oprah, Woody Harrelson, Clint Eastwood, and Owen Wilson who was there whilst we were).

Greg and I spent Valentines in the tiny town of Paia (pronounced Pa-ee-a).  Willie Nelson and Gene Simmons own restaurants and live nearby!
Quick tip, in Hawaiian all vowels are pronounced; So Haleakala is as reads Ha-lee-a-kala.
Paia was rainy and windy that day, so we found something else to do rather than swimming or sightseeing.

For my birthday greg surprised me with my favourite activity! SNORKELLING! The surprise day was gorgeous, beautiful, sunny with calm oceans. We were able to snorkel at the lovely Molokini island,  swim with turtles and even whale watch as it is whale season here.

Whilst I’m not one for whale watching, I’ve never seen whales up this close before. They were spouting, back flipping, tail diving, it was pretty amazing as up close they are HUGE!

The snorkelling was superb, rainbow wrasses, angel fish, lion fish, silver fish, eels, ocotopus, turtles, clown fish and the national hawaiian fish, the humuhumunukunukuapua’a.

We flew to Waikiki on Oahu, and I learnt to surf and watched a Hula Conference! Birthday dinner was at the amazing Dukes in Waikiki. Perfect!
The day after we flew to the Philippines and onwards to Vietnam!
